World leaders and the internet reacts to London attack

23 Mar World leaders and the internet reacts to London attack

The London attack yesterday on Wednesday afternoon which Prime Minister Theresa May condemned as a “sick and depraved terrorist attack has seen a great outpouring of reactions from around the world with leaders and the internet standing together in solidarity.

Reports broke in the late afternoon that a knife-wielding man went on a deadly rampage in the heart of Britain’s seat of power Wednesday, plowing a car into pedestrians on London’s Westminster Bridge before stabbing a police officer to death inside the gates of Parliament.

With now five sadly confirmed dead, London police say they are treating a gun and knife incident at Britain’s Parliament “as a terrorist incident until we know otherwise.” The Metropolitan Police said in a statement that the incident is ongoing.

Chinese premiere Li told reporters “together, we send our condolences to the prime minister of the U.K. and together we condemn terrorism and we stand against all forms of terrorism.”

Following the announcement of the officer who died in the attacked, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan tweeted “PC Keith Palmer was killed doing his duty – protecting our city and our democracy from those who want to destroy our way of life.”

BBC broadcaster Emma Barnett tweeted “Amazingly keeps pushing on – tube just reopened only 4 hrs after attack. Proud of this city, it’s people & spirit”

In Birmingham  the council leader Cllr John Clancy and his fellow colleagues showed support tweeting “The lit to show Birmingham’s solidarity with London. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by today’s attack.” as the Library of Birmingham’s lights were switched in tribute to union jack colours.
