Wickford primary school collects new litter picking equipment

26 Feb Wickford primary school collects new litter picking equipment

A Wickford primary school has received 15 new litter picking kits thanks to a successful bid via Basildon Council’s High Streets and Town Centres clean-up fund.

Pupils from Abacus Primary School in Tresco Way regularly undertake litter picks to help keep their school and local community clean and tidy and were active supporters in the council’s We’re Cleaning Up Campaign last summer.

Headteacher at Abacus Primary School Mrs Heidi Blakeley said: “Rubbish and litter is something our pupils are passionate about and our school council regularly run litter picks during lunchtimes. We also collect crisp packets for charity and have recycling bins in all our classrooms. We were pleased to support the We’re Cleaning Up campaign and are delighted to have received this new equipment after our successful bid for funding.”

Chairman of the Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee Councillor David Harrison, said: “It’s wonderful to see these young people getting stuck in and helping to keep their local area clean and tidy and I am pleased that the fund has helped them get kitted out with some new equipment.”
