‘Together for Safer Communities’ public meeting this week in Pitsea

09 Oct ‘Together for Safer Communities’ public meeting this week in Pitsea

This Thursday night, Basildon Council will be holding its next ‘Together for Safer Communities’ public meeting in an effort to provide community reassurance and promote crime prevention advice and materials.

The ‘Together for Safer Communities’ meetings are led by Councillor Kerry Smith, Chairman of the Housing and Communities Committee with the next meeting being held at The Place in Pitsea on Thursday 10 October from 7pm to 9pm.

The meetings aim to give residents the opportunity to discuss their community safety issues and concerns as well as pick up free crime prevention materials like property and bike marking kits, vehicle crime packs, number plate screws, personal alarms, credit card defenders, purse dipping bells and ‘No Cold Calling’ stickers.

Essex Watch and Neighbourhood Watch will be present at the meetings to encourage residents to become involved in their local groups and other such schemes.

Councillor Kerry Smith, Chairman of the Housing and Communities Committee, said: “Back in 2017, when I held the first Together for Safer Communities meeting in Nethermayne – it was packed and there was standing room only and I hope to replicate that at meetings across the borough.

“Any of us that are members of local Facebook groups know that community safety and crime concerns are daily online conversations and I hope that residents take the opportunity to continue these discussions offline and pick up lots of free crime prevention materials.

“I was keen to reintroduce these meetings where there is support of the local ward councillors to promote and be involved – so I hope we will see a packed calendar of events over the next year.”
