10 May Southend Triathlon is returning for the second year ‪

Southend Triathlon is returning for the second year on Sunday 17th June 2018 and promises to be bigger and better than ever before.

Sponsored by local premium, ethical activewear brand Sundried, this triathlon is alive with community spirit and is helping to encourage more local people to get active and try a new sport. With over 100 first-time triathletes last year we thought we couldn’t top it, but for 2018 we are excited to announce that over 50% of the 600 competitors will be putting together a swim, bike, and run for the first time. Not only this, many of the competitors are raising money for charity and thousands of pounds of proceeds are being donated to local charity Havens Hospices.

“Southend is a close-knit community with a huge love of sports so I am honoured to have been the one to revive the town’s triathlon,” says Event Organiser Daniel Puddick. “We’ve worked closely with the local council and local businesses to make this event a success and the closed seafront route and open water swim promise to make for hopefully the best race these athletes have ever done.”

Southend Triathlon is a sprint distance triathlon consisting of a 750m open water swim in the Thames Estuary, a 20k bike route along the closed seafront road, and a 5k run around the local Parkrun route. It’s very novice friendly with prizes for various categories other than just winners, such as fastest on a non-road bike and fast first timer. There are also goody bags, food and drink, and fun for all the family, making this event one not to be missed.
