Southend East MP James Duddridge supports local NCS teams

17 Aug Southend East MP James Duddridge supports local NCS teams

James Duddridge, local conservative MP and avid Southend United supporter, found the perfect match recently when he visited a proactive team of National Citizen Service (NCS) participants at Roots Hall.

The Rochford and Southend East MP attended the home ground of Southend United FC (on Friday 3 August) to see at first hand the pioneering work of NCS; the UK’s fastest growing youth movement. He attended with Southchurch Ward Councillor Daniel Nelson and met with a team of 16 and 17-year-olds currently in their third week of the NCS summer programme.

NCS is a unique youth empowerment and skills development programme delivered regionally by Southend United Community and Educational Trust in partnership with Ingeus.

The teenagers James visited have already spent time enjoying outward bound activities including rock climbing and abseiling at the Kingswood activity centre in Norfolk and stayed for five days at Canterbury Christ Church University undertaking workshops on CV-writing, budgeting and various aspects of health and social awareness. During James’s visit, they shared their community volunteering plans to raise awareness of mental health issues and fundraise for local branches of Mind and Samaritans.
