#Southend doctor one of only two awarded Young Doctors Fellowship across Europe

08 Dec #Southend doctor one of only two awarded Young Doctors Fellowship across Europe

A doctor from Southend University Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) is one of only two people from across the whole of Europe to be chosen to take part in a prestigious Young Doctors Fellowship.

Dr Dalip Kumar, from Southend Hospital, and Dr Heather Wieman from Norway were selected for European Society for Emergency Medicine Young Doctors Fellowships in non-invasive ventilation.
Their fellowships will take place at the Andrea Hospital Vercelli, Italy, under the auspices of Professor Roberta Petrino, president-elect of the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EuSEM).
Dr Kumar has excelled in his current role as a young ED consultant and has excellent core knowledge of the ED clinical curriculum and superb interpersonal skills both with staff and patients.
Of his award, Dr Kumar said:”I was delighted to be recognised for my work and to be one of only two to receive the Fellowship from across the whole of Europe, it really shows how we are improving and is also very much reflective of the support I receive at work.
“Once the Fellowship is complete we’ll be able to use that knowledge gained to help provide even better patient care in ED.”
As well as taking the responsibility of the department lead for clinical documents and guidelines Dr Kumar has also worked as a team leader and developed innovative quality improvement projects and clinical pathways for patient care in ED.
He is an Educational and Clinical Supervisor and enhanced GMC appraiser for the hospital and ED trainee doctors. Dr Kumar has received many awards and was recently granted the innovative fund application for the Specialty and Associate Specialist (SAS) doctor award by the Health Education East of England.
