Officers get their dancing shoes on in aide of young boy with cancer

10 Nov Officers get their dancing shoes on in aide of young boy with cancer

Three officers put on their dancing shoes at the weekend to help raise money for a nine-year-old boy diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

Special Inspector Jo Van Zanten and Special Constables Ricky Brown and Lisa Nightingale gave up their free time to help record a music video in aid of Alexander’s Journey – a fundraising effort for Alex Goodwin, the son of a Warwickshire Police Officer.

Alex was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma in June this year, a rare form of bone cancer that affects less than 30 children in the UK each year.

Sadly, the cancer has now spread, reducing the forms of treatment available to Alex on the NHS and his chances of survival.

To help raise money for specialist treatment not available in the UK, Warwickshire Police Investigator Dave Jones and his son have written and recorded a single called ‘Horizon on my Mind’.

All profits from the sale of the single will help Alex’s family reach the £120,000 they need to secure specialist treatment including Proton Beam Therapy.

The Specials joined 250 other members of the emergency services including fire fighters, members of the ambulance service, search and rescue teams and police dogs and horses to film a music video to accompany the single.

The filming took place at the former Warwickshire Police headquarters in Leek Wotton on Sunday, November 6, 2016.

Martin Jelley, Chief Constable at Warwickshire Police, said: “I’m incredibly proud to see the whole emergency services family come together to support and raise money for Alex, a very brave young boy who has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. It is a privilege to be involved in the video and I would like to personally thank all of those who gave up their free time to take part in this fantastic fundraising effort.”

Special Inspector Jo Van Zanten said: “This was an amazing event and one I’m really proud to have supported with my colleagues. Everyone there was full of energy and willing to do everything they could to help this worthy cause. We wouldn’t have missed it!”

The single, ‘Horizon on my mind’ is available for pre-order now from Amazon and iTunes and will be released alongside the video on December 5, 2016. You can also donate via Alex’s Just Giving page.
