New £11 million Independent Living housing scheme Rosebank Park to open this week

09 Jan New £11 million Independent Living housing scheme Rosebank Park to open this week

A new £11 million Independent Living housing scheme in Harwich for local people aged 55 and over is opening its doors to prospective residents, relatives and carers for the first time.

Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the flats and communal facilities at the newly completed Rosebank Park, located next to The Fryatt Hospital, Main Road CO12 4EY, on Friday 13 January between 10am – 3pm.

Rosebank Park offers 70 high-quality self-contained Independent Living apartments for local older people to rent. The stylish apartments are designed to meet changing needs and feature one or two bedrooms, living room, fitted kitchen, built-in oven and en-suite bathroom. Rosebank Park also offers community facilities for its residents including a stylish lounge, dining room, as well as, a mobility scooter store and private courtyard garden.

Staff from Essex County Council and Season Senior Living, who manage Rosebank Park, will be available at the Open Day to provide advice to prospective residents, relatives and carers about eligibility, care and support, funding and how to apply for a flat.

Essex County Council supported the development of Rosebank Park with a £1.7 million funding contribution through its Independent Living programme. Cllr Malcolm Maddocks, Essex County Council Deputy Cabinet Member for Aged Care, said:

“Rosebank Park offers local people the opportunity to continue to live their life, their way, in pleasant surroundings, with the security of 24 hour care and support. New, innovative housing schemes like this one in Harwich are an essential part of how we care for our residents in later life, providing people with greater independence and control.”

Independent Living housing offers people aged 55 and over the opportunity to live in a home of their own with the safety net of 24 hour care and support on site. To be eligible to apply for a flat at Rosebank Park, individuals must be aged 55 or over, require six or more hours of assessed care each week and have lived in the Tendring District Council area for at least three years (or have a family link to the area).

Independent Living is beneficial for people with a wide range of care and support needs, including early and mid-stage dementia. The first residents are moving in to Rosebank Park during January 2016. The Open Day is open to all; there is no need to book in advance. To find out more about Independent Living housing:
