Local club need your help to secure £50,000 in National Lottery funding

12 Apr Local club need your help to secure £50,000 in National Lottery funding

A local community group in Colchester, Essex is calling for your vote to secure £49,930 of National Lottery funding as part of this year’s People’s Projects. The Warm and Toasty Club Project Memory Afternoons is based in Colchester and this funding will allow the group to hold weekly Memory Afternoons for a year.

Memory Afternoons are charming befriending and conversation sessions for older people with live entertainment. These unique events are full of fun and laughter and are all about making older folk feel cherished. Older guests will be invited to a community hall to meet new people and build friendship groups and to share positive memories of their lives, be entertained by singers and dancers and take part in a range of activities that will help them feel less lonely and isolated and by doing so improve self-worth and confidence.

Young songwriters will be supported in writing and performing songs about the shared memories, artists will draw and make memento cards and singers, dancers and entertainers will perform as collectively we chat, we laugh, we share and we get happy.

Memory Afternoons will also work with partners Essex Sound and Video Archive and Colchester Recalled to capture and archive Essex social history including via the group’s online podcasts.

The project will complete with 2 public events at Colchester Arts Centre (a project partner) to showcase the worth of our older generation to the wider public.

Memory Afternoons are one of five groups in ITV Anglia East in the running for a share of up to £150,000 of funding and are the only Essex based project to make it to the final.

Voting closes at midday on Monday 30 April 2018. People can vote once per region and will need an email address to vote**. To support Memory Afternoons and for Ts & Cs please visit www.thepeoplesprojects.org.uk
