Two teenagers have died following a road collision in Leigh-on-Sea.
A maroon Ford Escort was in collision with a silver BMW at about 00.50am on Tuesday, December 27 in Southsea Avenue, at the junction with Glendale Gardens.

A 17-year-old boy in the Escort sadly died at the scene. A second 17 year-old boy from the same vehicle was taken to hospital, where he died this morning, Wednesday December 28.

Another two teenage boys, who suffered minor injuries, were arrested.

One, a 16-year-old from Great Wakering, was charged this morning with causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, causing death by driving without a driving licence and causing death by driving without insurance. He is due to appear at Chelmsford Youth Court today.

The second, a 17-year-old from Shoebury, was arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs and has been released on bail until January 14, 2017 pending further enquiries.

The incident has been referred to the IPCC, which has launched an independent investigation as the Escort was being followed by a marked Essex Police vehicle
