11 Jun Harlow Council leader thanks Police for weekend of action in the town centre
The Leader of Harlow Council, Councillor Mark Ingall, has praised Essex Police and Council Officers for their work in Harlow town centre over the weekend following the stabbing on Friday night (7 June 2019) in Terminus Street.
Councillor Ingall, said: “Following the stabbing the Police quickly used section 60 authority powers, which were extended across the weekend. I’m told that the powers were used to carry out 267 searches with a number of arrests, reports and warnings made for drug offences, offensive weapons and thefts which helped prevent any further violent incidents. The Police should be praised for their efforts and the local community for their co-operation and support during this time.
“I know that the stabbing in Terminus Street will alarm local residents and businesses, it shocked me when I heard. The Police and the Council are working together to reassure residents and businesses and our officers worked with Police officials over the weekend.
“Residents and business would expect me to say that Harlow continues to be a safe place to live and Essex Police assure me that this is the case. Largely Harlow is a safe place, but one incident like this is one too many. Just last week I was in the Terminus Street and I share the concerns that I hear about how the area looks and feels. Our Community Safety Team will continue to carry out regular patrols in the area in addition to the Police patrols. I am also asking officers to look at additional measures for cleaning up this area of the town centre.”
