Grants of up to £2,000 available for local crowdfunding projects

18 Sep Grants of up to £2,000 available for local crowdfunding projects

Community groups and organisations seeking crowdfunding can now apply for grants of up to £2,000 from Basildon Council.

The council has joined the Essex Crowd to ensure projects which aim to improve communities are given additional support to get off the ground. Hosted on the Spacehive crowdfunding platform, the movement encourages partners and members of the community to vote with their pockets by part-funding projects of their choice across the county.

Basildon Council can offer successful applicants grants of up to 10% of the overall cost of crowdfunding projects, up to a maximum of £2,000. It could be improvements to a park or play area, a new sports facility or a community event.

Cllr Andy Barnes, Chairman of the Communities Committee, said: “We are committed to supporting initiatives which make a positive difference to the lives of our residents, and encouraging people to actively contribute to improving their own neighbourhoods.

“The Essex Crowd is a fantastic way of bringing the community together to get behind the local issues which matter most, with projects relying on the generosity of the wider public and not on single votes and donations.”
