Free taster sessions on offer at George Hurd Centre open day

24 Sep Free taster sessions on offer at George Hurd Centre open day

Residents over the age of 50 are invited to try out the activities on offer at the George Hurd Centre during an open day next month.

Daily classes at the centre, in Audley Way, include bowls, keep fit and crafts. Members can also join the choir, enjoy games of snooker and visit the on-site hairdresser (by appointment only).

Coach trips run every month, including tours of Buckingham Palace, days out to the seaside and visits to West End shows. The committee also organises an annual summer holiday.

The open day and free taster sessions will take place between 10am and 3pm on Tuesday 9 October.

Councillor Andrew Barnes, Chairman of Basildon Council’s Communities Committee, said: “Our activity centres are a lifeline to many older residents who may otherwise feel lonely and isolated. They are great places to stay active, get help and advice and, most importantly, to socialise.

“The George Hurd Centre is lively, happy and welcoming so I would urge borough residents over the age of 50 to attend the open day to find out more.”
