Essex rally driver Tejpar kicks off Iberica Cup campaign with Fafe finish

27 Feb Essex rally driver Tejpar kicks off Iberica Cup campaign with Fafe finish

British rally driver Nabila Tejpar ensured her season in the Peuegot Rally Cup Iberica got off to a better start than her British Championship efforts the week before, by securing a solid finish at the opening round of the series, Rallye Serras de Fafe (22/23 February).

Tejpar, 25 from Maldon Essex, would head to Portugal for the second successive season behind the wheel of a PT Racing Peugeot 208 R2, contesting the popular and ultra-competitive single make series.

Kicking off with the iconic gravel stages around Fafe, 125km of special stage action would lie ahead spread across two days. Tejpar would also have the benefit of using the event as preparation for the World Rally Championship qualifier Vodafone Rally Portugal, which forms round three of the series. The WRC event will utilise similar stages to that of Rally Fafe and experience here will be invaluable for the return trip at the end of May.

Just one week previously, Tejpar and co-driver Max Freeman got their rallying season underway with the British Rally Championship opener, the Cambrian Rally in North Wales.

The reigning British ladies Rally Champion had enjoyed a successful day behind the wheel of her Pump Technology backed Peugeot 208 R2, before rolling on the final stage of the event and would head to Europe in the hope of more luck in her Iberica Cup campaign.

Just four stages opened proceedings on day one and despite contesting the WRC event in 2018, this would be Tejpar’s first encounter with the event. Despite being the shorter leg, the 30km of driving over four tests would be the most difficult of the rally thanks to taking place under the cover of darkness and the conditions in which Tejpar exited last weekend’s event in North Wales.
