Essex Chambers welcome support for Lower Thames Crossing proposals

26 Jul Essex Chambers welcome support for Lower Thames Crossing proposals

Following the publication by Highways England of their 2018 Lower Thames Crossing Consultation update, Essex Chambers of Commerce have welcomed the support shown by consultees for the proposals.

Although this is an interim consultation update some of the headline results contained in it are very positive for the project including:

  • More than 80% of respondents recognise the need for a new crossing
  • A clear majority (70%) support the proposed route
  • 70% felt that the information provided during our consultation was either ‘good’ or ‘very good’

Commenting on the Project Update Denise Rossiter, Chief Executive of Essex Chambers of Commerce, said “The feedback from the consultation undertaken in 2018 is very encouraging and we welcome the positive support that is being shown for the crossing.”

“We understand that further work is planned on refining the proposals with a view to submitting a planning application in 2020 and all being well the crossing opening in 2027. We remain firmly supportive of this scheme and would urge people to support it when the Development Consent Order is submitted next year”
