Essex Chambers & DP World host Minister of State for Trade and Investment

19 Dec Essex Chambers & DP World host Minister of State for Trade and Investment

The Rt Hon Greg Hands MP, Minister of State for Trade and Investment, visited DP World London Gateway Port and Logistics park at Stanford Le Hope to find out more about the work of the container terminal and to meet with Chamber members from across Essex.

During his visit he met with Chris Lewis, CEO, DP World London Gateway, before having a tour of the UK’s newest port. His visit concluded with a roundtable discussion involving members of Essex Chambers of Commerce, focusing on not just what help the Government could provide to exporters but also hearing about some of the success stories from the county’s businesses in accessing markets across the globe.

Speaking about the Minister’s visit Denise Rossiter, Chief Executive of Essex Chambers of Commerce, said “International trade and lobbying are two key areas of our work in supporting Essex businesses so it was great to bring the two together through this visit”

“The Minister was keen to hear not just about the challenges businesses face when exporting but also about some of the successes our members have had. What better place to do that than at DP World London Gateway. My thanks go to the Minister for taking the time to visit Essex and to DP World for hosting him”

Chris Lewis, CEO, DP World London Gateway said, “We have announced brand new shipping services recently to the Americas, and this meeting was a good opportunity to show the Minister for Trade an insight to how this service will benefit UK plc. We were delighted to be able to show the Minister the latest technology in the ports world which is in operation at DP World London Gateway.”

Speaking about his visit the Rt Hon Greg Hands MP said “The East of England is responsible for nearly 10 per cent of all UK goods exports and, with seven major seaports, the region really is playing a vital role in ensuring the UK meets the global demand for its goods. I was pleased to visit DP World and tour the UK’s newest deep sea port and Europe’s largest distribution park. My discussions with them and other local businesses from across the county not only highlighted the region’s strong exporting success, the day presented an opportunity to discuss their ambitions for growth and how the government can work with them to drive UK exports and attract further inward investment.”
