Get ready to soak up the sunshine this summer at Down Hall Hotel & Spa’s newly launched outdoor terrace. Idyllically situated on 110 acres of thriving gardens and woodland on the Hertfordshire/Essex border, the beautiful garden oasis offers superlative dining and a tranquil escape.

The new terrace, overlooking Down Hall’s perfectly manicured gardens, is  a picturesque spot to relax and unwind. Featuring beautiful furniture and soft furnishings, guests can sink into plush sofas, kick back on reclining lawn chairs and dine al fresco under umbrella-shaded marble topped tables. Come evening, heated lanterns will ensure guests can continue to chill under the stars, without any chill!

SUMMER SIPS

Boasting a charming outdoor bar with an extensive range of cocktails and drinks, Down Hall’s terrace is the perfect spot to relax with friends. The new drinks menu is a gin lovers delight, with more than 25 varieties to choose from! Sip on innovative tipples such as the Hendrick’s Encounter (£15.50), made with Hendrick’s Gin, elderflower, champagne and lime; Down Hall Bramble (£14), mixed with Ungava Gin, lemon juice, Crème de Cassis, egg white syrup and Angostura; or a Sloe Gin Spritzer (£15.50) made with W.E. Sloe Gin, sugar syrup, egg white syrup, Champagne Devaux and blackberries.

For those who like their cocktails sans alcohol, cool off with Down Hall’s creative range of zero-proof drinks including the thirst quenching Pineapple Agua Fresca (£6); Cranberry Caboose (£6); or a Virgin Mojito (£6)!

DAY-TO-NIGHT DINING

Start the day with a delicious brunch and smoothies in the sunshine. Down Hall’s new brunch menu includes Britain’s most-loved breakfast dishes like eggs benedict (£8); smoked salmon and scrambled eggs (£8); and pancakes and syrup (£6). For those on a health kick, the new smoothie range will set you in good stead for the day ahead. Try the energising Green Reviver (£6), blended with kale, mango, lemongrass and banana; or the Passion Storm (£6) packed with passion fruit, papaya, peach, pineapple, guava and aloe vera.

Tuck into lunch or Down Hall’s traditional afternoon tea al fresco served between 2pm and 5pm daily.  Come sunset, enjoy sun downers and bar snacks like ginger and chilli prawns; beef carpaccio; and tuna tartare, before having an intimate dinner under a canopy of stars.

JAZZY LUNCHES

While away the long afternoons with the smooth tunes of jazz at Down Hall. New for the summer, talented jazz band The Quartones will perform laid back songs from the pagoda on the 10th June and 15th July and April in Paris will perform on the 19th August.

Make a day of it and bring a picnic blanket and settle yourself on the grounds near the live music whilst enjoying stunning views. Tuck into a traditional picnic hamper (£25 per person) with an array of quintessentially British delicacies  or enjoy an afternoon tea picnic hamper (£30 per person) filled with cakes, scones, finger sandwiches and a selection of teas.
