Biggest festival of history and culture heads to Essex

02 Jul Biggest festival of history and culture heads to Essex

by Matthew Martino

England’s biggest festival of history and culture is expanding this year. Additional funding from players of People’s Postcode Lottery has enabled a new focus on arts-themed events, as well as LGBTQ history and natural heritage – in parks, green spaces, lakes and beaches.

Villages, towns and cities across Eastern counties are finding new and innovative ways to celebrate Heritage Open Days which will run from the 7-10th of September and here in Essex one particular town has a special celebration planned.

Introducing  Old Harlow Heritage Day, Essex

Celebrating Harlow’s 70th anniversary of becoming a New town in 1947, St John’s Arts and Recreation Centre will be celebrating the people and places, with family history workshops, exhibitions and displays including original materials from local shops in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

It will be on Sat 9th of September from 10am-4pm
