2017’s #MicroBizMattersDay hailed a success

15 Jan 2017’s #MicroBizMattersDay hailed a success

This year’s #MicroBizMattersDay on Friday 13 January brought millions of small and micro business owners together to share ideas and learn from champions of business. The global, social media event was hosted from Pimlico Plumbers head office in London.

The social media extravaganza began at 7:00 AM with event organisers Tony Robinson OBE and Tina Boden presenting the ‘Let’s Rock Hour’. They were joined online by author and mindfulness expert Tom Evans to get everyone into the zone. Through the hashtag #MicroBizMattersDay microbusiness owners could connect across the globe and share their activities. At 3:00 PM #MicroBizMattersDay was the second highest trending hashtag on Twitter, only being beaten by #Friday13th. Ahead of the event, business owners helped others through the #IGave13 initiative which allowed experts to share 13 tips or 13 minutes to help microbusiness owners succeed.

As well as the main event in London, live YouTube discussions took place with entrepreneurs who were hosting parties in Hull, City of Culture 2017. Pimlico Plumbers Managing Director Charlie Mullins OBE, founder and CEO of the MOBOs Kanya King MBE and Tina Boden took part in a special panel discussion to give advice to people looking to start their own business, to increase their employee numbers and how to stand out on social media.

Charlie Mullins OBE received the inaugural #MicroBizMattersDay Global Micro Enterprise Ambassador Award which recognised his hard work in supporting microbusinesses and the #MicroBizMattersDay initiative at an event at the ScanSnap headquarters in Baker Street, London. Event supporter Sage presented an award to the winner of their Business Idea competition.

Tony Robinson OBE said, “The most important part of #MicroBizMattersDay is that millions of microbusiness owners around the world are able to kick off 2017 by helping each other grow. It’s through connecting with each other we can create more jobs and encourage others to start a microbusiness.

“It is a great honour that we have had so many large corporations, media partners and business membership bodies promoting and broadcasting the #IGave13 message to their business owner customers, suppliers and members. We cannot thank them enough.”
